I have a 79 which had a summit racing M2008 4 barrel when I bought it. I recently switched to a Edelbrock 1406. So everything is good but the Edelbrock seems to have a hard time coming down from high idle when the engine is cold. I used to give a very slight tap to the gas peddle on the old carb during warm summer months and it would come right down to normal idle, is there an adjustment I missed? And also, although it runs very smooth it doesn't seem to have the power it used to with the old summit carb. Thanks in advance for the help.
The M2008 is a series of three different carburetors, 500, 600, and 750 CFM.
The 1406 is 600 CFM so if you had a 750 that would explain the power difference.
Did you reread the instructions for the 1406 concerning choke and fast idle?
Sounds like the choke adjustment is set too high (not the idle adjustment....the choke (coil) adjustment) Back it down a couple of marks and it would work better..
So why did you take the Summit (Holley 4010) carb off? The Summit/Holley carb is a much more forgivable piece IMHO.
Bolting a carb on and expecting it to run better is not how things happen.....all carbs must be adjusted and dialed in for an application......
What intake setup are you running?
