I have used caylx for years but it dried up and called Keen were i purchased it and they could not give me a answer how to rejuvenate it! It does not spread any more like peanut butter and just flakes of brush when applied. I have considered stove polish if i can find in gray, what are you preserving your manifolds with?
Bought some replacement dorman manifolds and they only have a bit of run time and light rust. So before I put them back on I was gonna try some corroseal, then heat paint my replacement exh manifolds but gonna go a diff route now. Think I'm gonna just wrap and then paint, wanna eventually make some headers and new exhaust anyway.
I took of my Big Block exhaust manifolds and replaced them with the Hedman headers.
The original big block exhaust manifold flows a lot better than the ram's horn style. I am going to send my original exhaust manifolds out to get them ceramic coated both inside and outside. I am also going to spec out the Higher temperature Ceramic Coatings they use on the NASCAR circuit with their high compression engines.
Below is a picture of what the factory Big Blocks left with.
Spraying CLEAN cast iron manifolds with Seymour 2000*F "Cast Blast" cast iron (ceramic) paint is the best secret in town. Bead or lightly shot blast the manifolds, blow off the dust, then wipe down with volatile cleaner (lacquer thinner, etc) & non-shedding cloth. Then two good coats of Seymour. Once dry, you install them on your engine, being careful not to damage the un-cured paint. The paint cures as you drive the car. But do this in decent weather with the windows open!! The stuff makes a LOT of smelly smoke. It's a little unnerving, at first; but it mostly subsided after an hour or so of running at speed. It will smoke and smell some for about 4-6 hours. Then it just stays like you painted them....without looking like paint (actually, similar to freshly cast iron).....for MANY years. Mine have been done for about 10 years; and I run the car 2000+ miles each year. They still look like the day I shot them.
I was recommended to NOT take off the manifolds by a professional because of the risk of breaking the old bolts. So, if I clean them with a wire brush and rust remover, can I paint them with high temp CAST BLAST or Eastwood High Temp coating?

Don't over think this, pull the manifolds and do it right. Trying to paint then installed on the engine is pointless IMO, if you want to go this route just buy some new Caylx and be one and done.
