Default Door differences ?

Does anybody know for sure if there is a difference between coupe or convertible doors. This door was perfect along the bottom and about an inch too high along the handle .

Too high , too big a gap, never hit body .

Nope...but no two Vette's are the same.....if the door is way too far off.....you either make it fit or get another that may be closer....
There is a lot that can be done with some creative adjusting....but only so much....Vette gaps were basically hand finished for each car from the factory.

That's a '68 door; is it a '68 body? Should fit closer than that. Also, vert doors and bodies had alignment pins and receptacles that coupes didn't have. Although I'm not positive if '68s had them, or if they came later.

The OP doesn’t say if it’s on the ground or up on jack stands. The body flex will make the door gap wider. It’s more prevalent on convertibles than coupes.

No alignment pins on the 68's. My 68's panel fit, from the factory, was pretty bad. The rear of the door, the convertible lid, and the external rear quarter panels didn't fit very well, but nowhare as bad as the OP photo. Hood match wasn't to good either. I paid a good amount of money to have the fiberglass panels and hood all match when I had the car painted. With perfect body fit panels and hood, the body probably wouldn't pass NCRS judging!

I believe the windows are different not the actual door.

The doors and the window glass are both different for coupes and convertibles. Convertible doors have door alignment pins located near to the top of the rear of the door. These alignment pins slide into a pin reciever when the door is closed. The receiver is located on the body.

The rear edge of the coupe class is vertical. The rear edge of convertible glass is angled towards the "A" pillar.at an angle of about 25 degrees. This topic had been covered numerous times on this forum. Search for more info.

True….there are differences but the actual fiberglass mold is the same size.

You are correct, Jebbysan. The fiberglass skin is the same for both coupe and convertible doors. The metal door frame is different, as I outlined above.

I wonder what year they started with the alignment pins for the convertible doors. My 68 doesn’t have them.

I found the info. Not until 70.

I know the glass is different for coupe and convertible . I know the 68 and I believe 69 did not have alignment pins. I know the parts book lists 2 different door weatherstrips, but ( I think ) that is because where the ends align with the conv. top vs a hardtop.. The car is done, the original door was really not that bad and was repaired. You can only imagine my surprise after I striped the door and went to mount it. It was a conv. door because I took the glass out. I just thought there was something very strange going on. My friend has a 68 that he is restoring too and his door also fit perfect. I just think it was so weird that the bottom of the door was perfect, and the striker even lined up, and you could actually put your finger between the door and quarter panel. Joe
