Are these any good? i dont care about the base cause ill be adding two rockford 10's later on. i was wondering if the 4x6 and the 6x9 will fit right in the stock mounts for my 79. if not then what is better, the reason i am choosing infiniti is because i heard they have the best sound quality.
I am putting two Infinity Kappa 4x6s in mine. They're 'plate speakers', component speakers made to fit the opening, so I would bet they're pretty good. They're the $100 per pair type on Crutchfield. If you're going to wait a while, I can tell you what I think after I put them in this Christmas!

Re: infiniti speakers (Fevre)
I have the Infinity KAPPA 4x6's and 6x9's and they are great! I have them in my Jeep and my Vette and the wife's GC Jeep came with the Infinity sound system.
If you are going to use a Bass box you might consider usint the 4x6 plates and a mid-range speaker also available from Infinity along with a set of their Bass speakers in your box. This is what I am going to do for my El CAmino I'm finishing up on. They also have a good 2" tweeter if needed. JIM
Those are Infinity Reference speakers. But remember, you're driving a Corvette. You won't be able to hear the difference. The 6x9's will NOT fit behind the stock grilles. Probably the only 6x9's available that will fit are Pioneer dual-cones.
What I did was make a set of custom speaker panels from ¼-inch aircraft plywood and installed 6½" round speakers. The photos show Pioneers, but there is now a set of Infinity 605cs component speakers back there.
PS: If you really want to go 6x9, I have a nice set of new Infinity Reference 3-way speakers. You'll just have to build some speaker boxes. There are some tech articles on how to do that. Send me an email.
if you guys are really concerned with sound quality, the best thing you can do is buy a set of kick panels from a vette that had speakers down there, put some good 5.25 or 6.5s in it and throw a tweeter down there too. aim everything twords the driver. (who cares about the pasenger  ) the sound qualty is amazing. the dash location has the waves bouncing off the glass which kills sound quality and imaging.
Battsup... why rockford? is it bacause they are inexpensive? there are so many subs on the market that are so much better! my eclipse aluminum 10s are the best ive heard SQ wise. the loudest ive heard were eclipse titaniums, but then 4 15s with 8000watts is gonna be pretty loud.
i used to install this stuff so ive heard all types of stereos and this is the best type ive heard. oh yea, aim the subs up at the glass for you 78+ with bass its ok because the waves move to slow to get turned to crap basically.
useless fact: Did you know that a 20 hertz note (subsonic and barely audible to the human ear) is one of the slowest wavs and is a mile long? ok ill go put my "DORK" hat on now. :D
[edit] sorry i was mixing up my useless facts. :D

Make sure you try the infinity plate speakers before you commit. I love Infinity, have them in the house and in all my vehicles. The plate speakers would not fit in my '80 dash, no matter how hard I wished and pushed. They were about a 1/16" to thick. They fit and sounded fine on the passenger side but the speedo housing got in the way of the driver side. I ended up returning them and got some nice Polk two ways. In the back, I put Infinity 6X9 3 ways in cabinets I made. You might be interested in the cabinets as they take up absoulutely no cargo space. They look like they belong there. I'll post pics if anyone is interested.
I haven't seen the plate speakers, or measured the space on the drivers side, so I guess it was a rather uneducated decision... hopefully I can make it work!
i had an all Cerwin-Vega system a couple years back. i had Cerwin-Vega plates in the dash and i had the same problem. drivers side due to the speedo/tach. i just drove it with no speaker grilles because it sounded so good. later i switched the speakers to my blazer. the passenger side it the one that dosent fit in it  the ironic thing is the cerwin plate were called "Stelath" because they are designed to fit in stock locations. the things are 2.5"deep! theres no way they would have fit! they still sound great though. especially since being amped by my Alpine V12 amp.
side note, Cerwin has really gone down the tubes. i think the same thing that happenec to RF happend to them. i call it "Best Buy"
Here are some pics of my infinity 4x6's. They are good speakers but you really can't tell good quality from bad in a noisy vette (IMO). You will probably have to enlarge the pics to see them. They are in the kick panels.
Infinity makes excellent mid- and high- speakers. Until just recently, their low- products have been pooracoustically. But, enter the Kappa Perfect sub, and it's good. Very good.
I would not hesitate to recommend any of the high- and mid- range speakers from Infinity. I would stay away from their low- range unless you're talking about the Kappa Perfect.
Oh, and by high- mid- and low- I mean the frequency, not $$$. :smash:

:iagree: Kappa Perfect subs had reliability issues when they first came out. subs would constantly rip them selves apart, but as i understand that has been corrected.

True. My friend's ripped itself apart, but it was so good before it did. Ultimate Electronics replaced it free since he got the "extended warranty." A good choice.
I recently saw an Infinity demonstration. They have a Kappa Perfect sub in a box wired so that it can be plugged directly into the mains. It will play the 60Hz cycle 115 volt for hours. At 115 volts, a sub is drawing approximately 8-10 amps. That's pretty much at its peak wattage rating.
the infinity kappas plates are about the best bang for your buck considering your choices. however the gain will be killed once you install them and bounce the sound off the windshield and the car overpowers them. they require an aftermarket player with at least 25 watts to sound decent. they say seven, but you dont get near what theyre worth unless you power them. killer speakers though i have a pair of kappa components in my truck. i bought them after the old MB quartz speakers blew. spent about 700 on the MB's and bought the kappas on sale for 200 until i got the money up to buy more MB's. that was a year ago, still have the kappas and they blow the MB's out of the water.

the funny thing about that is we have been doing that for years. if a customer would come in not knowing which sub went bad (if they had more than one) we would hook em up to the wall. the kennwoods would jump off the floor a smoke and thats that. the eclipses wouldnt die. the eclipse subs just sat and did the 60hz as loud as they could and just wouldnt die. im a big fan of eclipse. :smash:
I listened to Infinity 2 way awhile back & they were not better than Pioneer 2 way. Bought Pioneer 4X6 2 way & installed in the kick panels. While I would have preferred "plate speakers, component speakers" as RUXperienced said or some round speaker, wanted something likely to fit in kickpanel & the dash if I wanted to move them. Have Pioneer component dome tweeters in the rear speaker system. Rear is removable (normally no radio) w/ 2 long throw 4" in each box (equil. to 2 8").
Something you guys might want to consider is that in general 6X9 are infinite baffle speakers & therefore are designed for a large box like the trunk (of a normal car).
