Hello friends working an 81'. I've been looking for a front turn signal bulb. All local parts stores are saying this Slyvania bulb is the right fit, however the locking bumps are staggered compared to the old bulbs which prevent it from turning in place and securing it. Also the end connection has bumps 2 compared to it being 1 on the original , and the 2 ends run perpendicular to the locking bumps. Anyone else have this issue? We're can I get the correct bulb for this, I can't find it anywhere beyond places continuing to recommend this same bulb.
In mine, all signal/park bulbs are 1157, two filaments. The bulb you have in your hand (pins opposite) is a 1156, used for back-up light.
Seems odd that in '81 the bulbs would have changed.
How is the bulb I have an 1156, the packing indicates 1157.
You are holding two different bulbs.
The 1157 has the pins staggered across from each other.
The 1156 has the pins directly across from each other, you are holding that in the second photo. You state the 1156 is the original. I have never seen that before in a signal, only in a back up (reverse) bulb.
Therefore the question, does an '81 have park lights in the front ? If so where are they.? Typical configuration is a 1157 bulbs front and rear. Dual filament, one for park lights, one for signal.
Just trying to understand why a 1156 in your front signal ?????

I was confused on which you were talking about. But yeah idk why its like that then, I've never changed them and the housing looks like it's never been changed before, actually had to wrestle one of the metal part off the bulb because the glass came right off and was filled with yellow gunk that was keeping it in there. So I imagine it's been the same bulbs since 81. I'll check out the other bulb number for sure though.
I don't know which is the correct bulb. The 1157 has two filament, of which one is a brighter brake light filament; the other is a weaker tail light filament. The front lamp is just running light or turn signal. That function could be done with just one filament...depending on how GM designed it. Check the internet or owner's manual for determining the correct bulb for that application.
edit: also there are two bulbs for the front the small bulb I belive a 168 is the actual turn signal bulb because it sits behind an orange plate and the larger one looks like it's a running light sits behind a white plate.

Below is the original bulb
If you aren’t trying to stay stock, get led. Will last longer and very bright. Easy to get on Amazon. I’ve don’t interior lights this way but not turn signals but I don’t think it would make a difference as long as you get the right size.
