Default Alternator belt

Is this belt suppose to be flush or is it okay to be a little out like this? The power steering belt sits a little more but isn't flush as well.

The ac compressor belt is flush though.

GENERALLY, the belt should sit lower so that you get good grip on the sides of the belt. But also, you do not want the belt to bottom out on the pulley.
If it's not slipping, it probably doesn't matter.

Well it's a new belt and slightly longer than oem because the alt didn't have enough play to put it on with the shorter belt. Dont have the old belt to see the differences in seat fitment. guess I'll find out when I finally get the car running.

If it's not slipping, it's probably OK. But the belt shouldn't be sticking up above the pulley O.D. As mentioned, less side area to grip the inner 'V' of the pulley. Are you certain that belt is the correct width for the pulleys it rides in? Belt width should be nearly the same size as the groove widths at the O.D.'s of the pulleys running with it.
