Replacing the fuel pump (bought a Delphi MF0026), and the new pump isn't sitting flush. I've got the engine TDC, and the push rod up and held on with a bolt.
What's spooking me is that the new pump doesn't sit flush. When I compare the pump I pulled out with the new one, the lever stick out about a sixteenth more...
I'm sure I could bolt it down, but I don't like forcing things. I've seen some old posts suggesting that they don't sit flush, but that doesn't make sense to me to have the pump arm pre-loaded that much.
The pump will need to be drawn down flush to the block, I'm thinking 1/8" or so gap isn't surprising. snug the bolts a little on each side as you draw it in so it stays straight. You are using that bolt hole on the front of the block to hold the rod up I'm guessing but it still needs to be pushed up.
Make sure the arm length is the same on the new and old pump but not so much how far each is out

I would try this. While loosening the bolt that keeps the rod in place, put you finger in the pocket and try to push the rod up a bit higher. It may go a bit higher. Tighten the bolt. That may do it. Good luck. Jerry
There needs to be some small amount of compression on the pump lever...even when the cam lobe is at its lowest point. Otherwise, it would be unloaded for an instant on every rotation and make a slapping noise. Just tighten the bolts down evenly in stages.
