Default Left indicator dimmer than right + wire identification

Hi guys,

Whilst I'm waiting for my engine to be bored out I'm tackling the interior and I'm trying to fix some issues with some electric gremlins although the car has a new wiring loom ( PO changed it for a new one in 2013)
I noticed that the left indicator in the grille is dimmer than the right one, noticed it because the fibreoptics were dimmer too.
what could cause this? The rear lights aren't connected atm. Could that influence it? I think they share the same earth so if it was an earthing issue I'd think they would both be dimmer?

Also, I found a burnt wire coming from driver side out of the bulkhead, it's white and runs to the passenger side where it turns into a red wire and runs back into either the car or the wiper compartment.
any good guesses what wire that is?

Current state of the interior, slowly coming together..

Not always the ground!!! Just sayin-

Could be an 1156 bulb where an 1157 goes-

Here's the wires coming out of the harmonica- the rear 12 pin disconnected definitely will help diagnosis.
Also notice the front and rear turn signal wires are separated and the front turn signal indicator wire is attached to the front lights.

If the bulb is a double filament type with offset pins on the metal casing, you may have the bulb (or the one on the other side) installed incorrectly. I've seen this many times on the tail light bulbs; but I can't remember if the parking lamp/turn signals in the front use those bulbs (or not).

Hmmm. I've swapped the lamps around with the same result. I'll have to get out the trusty multimeter.
while I'm here, does anyone know the size of the glass fuses ( length and diameter) our cars use? In Europe we have 3 types and I can't find the size online. I'm on a citytrip today and would like to pick up a few fuses

Thanks all

The standard Buss fuse size is 1.5 inches in length and .25 inches in diameter. That converts to 36mm long and 6.5mm in diameter. Since the receiver clips are 'springy' and have some width to them, anything close in length and diameter should fit in the clips. Some Buss fuses are 'stubbies' (shorter)....I think about .75 inches long (approx.18 mm long).

Yes. 1157. Both ends. And the lower filament is turn sig and upper filament is tail light-park. And with no ground it will run thru both and be dimmer.

It's the ground that's bad, when earthing it to the bumper it is as bright as it should be.
where is the earth for the driver side indicator located, I it on the front valence where the headlight mechanisms bolt to?
it's a bit weird, car got a new wiring loom so didn't expect any corrosion problems orso. Thanks again!
