I’m sure there probably isn’t many C3 “Dragy” tests going on so....I figured I’d post my Dragy 60-130 results/vids up for those that may be interested.
For those that don’t know, a Dragy is a GPS based performance meter that can log/record many different performance metrics of your car and is VERY accurate... usually within hundredths + or - against your time slip from the track.
I’ve been Dragy testing my C7Z, my turbo bike, and my Grand National for a couple years but always wanted to test the 71’ out of sheer curiosity....turns out, it was faster then my GN.
So the old 496 is still running good. How many miles on the engine? Have you had it on the track lately?
Hey Bruce!
Man I pulled the motor back
in 18’ while the car was in paint, took it to Mark Jones for a refresh at 27k miles, it had a lifter eating a wheel. So we went through and refreshed it all. Basically just a ring and bearing job but he ported on the heads a little more and we updated the whole valve train. Went to a 248/258* hyd roller cam (but with solid roller lifters on it)... some oil control updates etc. Just basic updates. Gained about 30hp. I ran the car twice after it was done. First trip out it went 10.59@129 on the same old converter. Then I tried a custom ATI 8” converter I had spec’d for it, and the car slowed down terribly everywhere. Had like 25% slippage, barely ran 10s. Pulled it out the next day and put the old one back in. Haven’t ran it again since. Just playing on the street with it. Last year and a half been tied up in my Buick GN.
I hope you’re doing well.
I never get on the boards anymore, but I figured some people may be interested in Dragy fun!
Thanks for that update. Now I do remember you posting some info about the refresh, head work and cam change. That car is still an inspiration concerned with quarter mile performance.
BTW - what rear outer axles are you using. I have my trailing arms out for a rebuild and I would like to upgrade from the stock axles. Stronger, direct replacements would be great.

I’m using all Toms Diffs stuff. 31 spline outers, 30 spline inners, 12 bolt spider gears and cross pin... basically everything except the 12 bolt ring/pinion and posi unit. About 30k hard miles on it all....still hanging in there.
Great vid......over here in UK many drivers use dashcams - (as I'm sure they do in US) here its mainly as back-up evidence in case of a RTA or 'crash for cash' scam. Increasingly police are encouraging drivers to send in to them footage of bad and dangerous driving from other road users. I'm intriqued how this works in the 'States - any worries about authorities viewing a publicly post vid and taking action? - or is evidence only legal if recorded by police?

The “dash view” you see here is actually my cell phone on a mount, and using the Dragy app that includes videoing your test run, then over laying the timer/speed data over the actual run. It’s pretty cool.
But yeah regular dash cams are pretty common in the States...
Love the dump on the downpipe........get that sucker spooled!
What mods are done to this? Is the front spoiler different? Seems to be missing the intercooler scoop........
It's a nice one.....and one of these is next on the list before they are too expensive to buy......
It is hard to believe when I look back that they built this engine back then......it was at least 10 years ahead of it's time.....
Pure 80's rocket.....hi-tech engine in a lo-tech car.....

Man... I’ve had hell with this car.. I’m on the 4th engine build in a year and a half. 2 different builders, ridiculous money spent.....and it’s still not running. Just gave up and bought another block/crank to start over with. With each build, I’ve updated/upgraded stuff on it. Pretty much everything done. The only thing left stock on the engine is the block. That’s literally it. When it’s running, it’s fun as hell to drive but man....these cars are **** boxes. Lol

And yeah I have a 1 pc front air dam because I’m running a front mount intercooler now, not the stock location intercooler that needs the scoop.

You may be too late. They're fetching good money for the few that cross the auction block.

Yeah the block in these is great to certain power level and then just moves all around like a 302 Ford.......
My buddy Jeff used to build the V6 GN blocks for Jim D'allesandro the national record holder in these cars back then. 9's IIRC. The turbo in that car was almost as large as the V6 block.
They used only Buick 4.3? L HD race blocks and still had oiling problems. It would tear the main webs right out of it. Again and again. Jim was sponsored by GM and they just kept shipping new engines over. Jeff finally solved the problem that even the GM engineers could not. It was starving for oil. Re-drilled the main oil galleries larger, they were too small and starving the mains. 2-1/2 ft drill bit! Hilarious! Never had any problems after that. 1200 ish HP.
If you are having main bearing problems think about it.
