Default 81 EFI conversion. Old wiring removal

I have a 1981 corvette. I am in the process of swap it out the Quadra jet for a fitech efi. I will be adding a locked and phased MSD billet distributor with external coil in order to let the fitech manage the timing.

As I unhooked all the wiring going to the only carb, my initial intention was to remove these two 6/7 pin flat connectors ant get rid of them entirely. After all, they appear to be for nothing other than the carb, and ignition sensors etc.

However, it suddenly occurred to me that some of that may somehow be necessary for some purpose I am yet to discover.

can anyone tell me what all wiring I can expect to be able to get rid of having removed the old intake and carb?

I'm not sure, but I removed a bunch from my 76 when I put my fitech in about a month ago. I ran all the necessary wires to a terminal block on the firewall so it would be easy to troubleshoot and connect.

That really looks great. rI am still getting my block cleaned up, but i expect i will be putting it back together next week. it will include the newly machined heads, new intake and of course the fitech. I have done a fitech before on a 62 oldsmobile, but i was starting from scratch there and there really wasnt any wiring to get rid of.

My 81 had two flat connectors with about six or eight wires going from the Carburator and an assortment of sensors on the intake, all leading back into the fire wall. i believe most of these go to the ECM located in the battery box. i just dont want to start ripping wires out before i know what they are.

You don't need the original wiring unless you have an automatic transmission. The '81 ECM controlled lockup function for the trans.
Your modifications have dealt with the carb and distributor; and those were the 2 primary components managed by the stock ECM.

My 81 is an automatic. I’m not really sure how this changes things wiring wise. I know there is a set of wires plugged in to the trans, but I have not traced them yet to see if they go to the exam or through the firewall. It does have the vacuum line that runs from the former carb to the trans and that will be hooked up.

having ditched the HEI distributor for a standard distributor and coil, my tach is not functioning. i am trying to locate a tach signal wire. on the 81, there is a tach filter from the HEI that connects to a single connector. i tried a jumper from that wire to the coil, but no luck. any suggestions?

It should go to the negative terminal of the coil, the wire going to the tach is white.
