Default Oil line fitting

I’m not sure of the proper name for this. See the attached picture. Oil line fitting?

Anyway, it’s leaking. I tried to tighten it figuring it may have come loose from the block. Since it wasn’t loose I assume have to replace it.

First of all, what is it called? It isn’t a sensor or gauge, that is in the car.

Does Zip sell a replacement?

I am assuming if I take it off the block, open it up there will be a compression ring inside it. I also assume I would need another piece with a new compression ring.

I am sure you experts can advise me.

It’s the connector for the oil line that goes to your oil pressure gauge. You would be smart to replace the entire assembly as the cost is very reasonable. Al the vendors sell them, unfortunately you will have to remove the center gauge cluster. If you are not comfortable removing the center cluster, just replace the brass nut and collar from the new one. Use Google for more information on this problem as it’s very common.

Any parts store that has brass fittings, will have it. 1/8 inch pipe thread for 1/8 inch line, compression fitting.

You are probably dealing with a worn crush washer and tubing ferrule - I'd bet the fitting that screws into the block is fine. Someone may have had it apart previously and even lost the ferrule; they are tiny.
As Eliredandblack mentioned, the tubing kits are inexpensive (~ $10) and come with new nuts, crush washers and ferrules for both ends.It wouldn't hurt to replace the entire line for peace of mind and you may just have to remove the passenger dash to access the backside of the oil pressure gauge.

Interesting. What size does the compression fitting have to be to fit the plastic line?

DO change the line because they get brittle & break ... bad ... t-shirt!

that line's been changed from OE ...it's likely fitting in block has been changed as well.

here's what's correct line for 69 w/sbc from CF supporter willcox
https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...69-73-sb-68-73

Or upgrade to race-quality (Not chinesium) armored lines; suggest maker Goodridge
https://us.goodridge.com/

you won't go wrong with either of the two

* BEFORE ya make up the FINAL connection to gage; suggest ya test fit it to gage while gage in a bag/bucket & run the motor up !

From the factory, were the lines not Copper, or Steel ? At my parts store plastic was for none critical applications, like air shocks. Check out, Ecklers, Corvette America. PS cotteng It is a 1/8 inch compression fitting , some called it a ferrel. https://shop.hoseandfittings.com/cat...E&redirected=1

Gazillions of vettes came OE w/ black plastic line. I've personally had a couple sbc C3; both had OE black plastic.

In this app, the ferrule is a tiny ring or wedge-shaped metallic ring which slips over the plastic line and lies between the fitting and the nut.

Some OE block fittings have a Very tiny "straw" which fits a short distance Into the black plastic line.

In some apps, a hard (steel or copper) line is appropriate; while in others vibration flexes metallic line and work-hardens (embrittlement) the metal. In some apps, a "coil" is engineered into the metallic line in order to mitigate vibration.

* not ALL 1/8" ferrules fit ALL 1/8" fittings

unless you're looking NCRA points, get yourself an armored Goodridge line.

The only copper line was on a big block running from the side of the block to another fitting in a bracket at about the head/block mating seam. After that point, it was the same black plastic line the small blocks used. There are two pieces under the nut, a compression ring and a very tiny flared tube that fits inside the plastic tube. I assume the inside tube is to keep the ring from compressing the plastic.
