Default PG260 Starter Users Question

Any of you PG260 GM permanent magnet gear reduction starter users ever find a starter brace to fit? I tried one of these starters for the first time and it works great but my old 10MT brace will not reach the lug on the much smaller PG260 mini starter. After looking around for one and finding nothing I thought I would ask what you all are using there?

Unnecessary as it doesn't weigh but a third of the stock unit......the brace was due to the 20+ pounds hanging off the forward attachment, which created cracked noses. The factory applications for this starter (which were C/K and S trucks) didn't have a brace that I remember......I do remember that they were very troublesome without the shouldered knurled bolts......

Perfect. No brace it is.
I actually have (8) spares of the specific GM PG260 long starter bolts. Rock Auto sent me way too many -LOL.

Thanks!

Whats the delco # for that starter and bolts in the rock auto catalog? Use with any flywheel?

Default correct bolts, No bracket

As said, correct bolts are paramount ... all Blocks do Not have same threads ... all Bolts do Not have same threads. Before mounting PGxxx starter, suggest dry-fit any new bolt to verify correct thread match.

Also suggest referencing all Pics and part numbers in this two-page pdf Remy tech sheet to assist verifying your bolts exhibit correct attributes (taper, knurl, thread pitch etc).
https://autoprollc.com/wp-content/up...eb2016_web.pdf

FWIW, I too have not seen an OE commutator-end support bracket used w/ light PMGR starters. If starter properly mounted w/ correct bolts; Not at all necessary.

FYI: Some come w/ Steel planetary ring gear (internal gear reduction) while others are Delrin /plastic. Either are good, but replacement steel are available.

Congrats on your choice ....Properly mounted, me thinks you will like PG260 starter.

The Remy document linked above shows the 4 basic part numbers for the starters. 2 are for "points ignition" solenoids and the other 2 are for "HEI" type solenoids. Diagonal bolt pattern are used with large 168 tooth flywheels and bolt patterns in-line are for small 153 tooth flywheels. The bolts are different than our original production parts and they are critical here so make sure you get those. These are brand new Remy starters, not rebuilt. VERY NICE.

check this Remy sheet from above whenever installing a PG aka PMGR type starter
https://autoprollc.com/wp-content/up...eb2016_web.pdf

if your OE (10MT) starter has a staggered bolt pattern; it's 168T ...
if your OE (10MT) starter has a Straight-across bolt pattern; it's 153T

What I need is a starter and bolts for a GM crate engine that didnt come with a starter and bolts. On top of that I'm using an orig points/tach drive disto that has been converted to electronic. My flywheel is a McCloud 153 tooth for a one piece rear seal. Ive seen several mini starters from different companys that they say will work with any flywheel.
So my original question is what are the part #'s for a PG260 you used and bolts in the rock auto list?
Thanks

I use the CVR 5323….best damn starter you can buy IMHO….

I don’t know of a GM permanent magnet starter for 153 flywheel…..the trucks were all 168 tooth.

You need:
(1) 96207 Starter
(1) 12338064 Long Bolt
(1) 14037733 Short Bolt

I'm sure the CVR starter is a nice piece but it is double what the PG260 and bolts will cost you.

Just an update - GM discontinued the special short bolt for this in-line style starter so if you have the small 153 tooth flywheel it will be a problem for you to complete this swap. Plenty of long bolts though for the larger 168 tooth flywheel applications.

That’s crazy….I looked and Dorman doesn’t do them either….

Look for an LT and maybe get lucky. Watch out for the metric threaded ones. Your block is 3/8-16

short-long bolts here

https://www.dbelectrical.com/product...r-starter.html

disregard the included gasket; it's for a marine app. Read the page's bolt thread description.
Again, Never torque down a bolt without first verifying it correctly fits the female thread.
