Rear awaiting a rebuild. Going from 3.08 to 3.70

If you ever wonder why they clunk going into reverse. Check out the gap here.

Looked OK from the bottom but the top biscuit here just is crumbled away.

You could grab the front of the diff and shove it up and down. Old worn out rubber.

They are out

Rear suspension gone

Front suspension gone
After a long battle with the Sawzall they are finally out. The front and rear suspension are all out ready for the rebuilt parts to be installed. Making good progress so far.

Out with the old in with the new

New parts awaiting install
I got these parts from Bairs. They did a great job and have the rear end now. It is being rebuilt and converted to 3.70 gears to go along with the 5 speed TKX that is going in also.

Current update is I have the rebuilt upper and lower control arms. Rebuilt trailing arms are here also. The rear I got a call from Bairs and the diff is good but needs new axles. That should be done and here by next week. The VS suspension is ordered and on its way. The only issue is the rear spring which they are behind in making them. Should be here mid to late January. No big deal as I can assemble everything else and that is really the last piece back there.
The motor I was just informed will be here late next week or right after the first depending on shipping. The TREMEC from SST will be here mid January. New wheels and tires arrived 2 days ago and the exhaust was bought from a forum member here and is in storage awaiting its turn.

Quick update again: Sold the engine and transmission out of this in about 2 hours this morning. Facebook Marketplace. Priced it right to get rid of it and I had over a dozen people get back to me and wanted it. Will be out and on its way to a new home next week. Going in a 68 Camaro convertible as a temporary until his LS swap will be done.

Picture of new tire and rim just placed in the wheel well. There is no suspension behind it.

Had a spare couple of minutes yesterday among all the pre Christmas stuff going on. Decided to get the rear trailing arms in and off the floor. Just bolted in and ran the E brake cable and the rubber brake lines.

You learn to get around them. I had a 2 post lift but it would not fit well in the new garage so. I had to get the 4 post. I prefer to use a 2 post for working on cars since the axles are free and there is way more room. A body removal is much easier with a 2 post but can be done on a 4 post.

Motor coming out

Motor and trans awaiting the new owner to come pick them up

This morning I got my hoist and yanked the motor and pulled out the trans. I sold them and the new owner came this afternoon and I loaded it up. New motor coming later this week. Working on the 5 speed conversion now. Radiator was in poor condition so I scored a Dewits and duel Spal setup courtesy of David Howard for the car. Installed some new brake hard lines this afternoon. Making good progress so far.

New motor arrived

What’s inside

Going to have to replace the WP but if it runs as good as it looks should be a nice upgrade form the original motor

Sway bar kind of mounted, new brake lines and brakes are on. The shock is just hanging at the moment and the camber rods are in but nothing tight.

Fronts sway bar mounted

Had a slight setback. The rear that Bairs was rebuilding came in but wrong ratio. Long story short COVID had some working from home and they had a miscommunication on what ratio I needed. The 3:08 came back. Well they are now building me a 3:70 and should be here next week sometime. If I had the rear I would be all done except the rear spring which Van Steel is making them as fast as they can but are a little behind. I can’t do a whole lot with the front suspension since no motor is in and tough to compress those springs with no weight up front. Working on the Borgeson box a litttle. Next I will remove the steering column and pedal box. The TREMEC should arrive around the 12th of January. Also lost a day due to my hot water heater taking a dump. I did install a tankless system though. These are nice units and had one in my old house also.

View from drivers seat

View from engine side

Look what I found behind the dash

Old automatic pedal box and old booster

Now just awaiting the transmission kit which should be here tomorrow and the 3:70 rear from Bairs. I’m at a standstill until more parts are in. Just cleaning up things getting them ready to be reinstalled now.

Looks great!
Nice finding the build sheet under the dash.
Looks like it was well preserved up there.

You seriously don't even have to take the hood off to pull the motor out?
