Before I haphazardly go into tearing apart the console on my 68, I thought I'd stop here first. The only real working gauge in the center stack is the oil pressure. The fuel reads at half scale, I know how to fix that, done so on a number of sending units that were out of calibration. But I have no alternator, no water temp (this one I hope is easy, I believe, I can't seem to find the sending unit even though I looked up where it is supposed to be) and the clock of course, they never work. Often due to stuck or worn-out points, again a fixable item. It's the alternator and temp gauge I'm concerned with. The intake is a period vintage aluminum one. I think I can just use a standard sensor, right? Then how does that get wired? I found no cut or taped off wire ends so I may have to run new wires for it. Same for the alternator. I am getting no response on the gauge, but it is all hooked up correctly, or looks like it is. Any insight on that? Oh, how about the power antenna? Is that supposed to be tied to the radio? If so, that would make sense as the radio, of course, does not work either. Any help, insight or just plain rude or funny comments are accepted!

I would suggest that you run a lead from GROUND to the bezel to see if is just that you do not have a ground path. If the gauges react then you can work on taking care of that.
If you need a sensor just go order one from WIllcox. Take some pictures of your intake and of the sides of your heads (both sides) to see if the temp sensor has been relocated. Find the hole where the temp sensor is supposed to go and check to see what size it is.....just in case your heads have been replaced with some thing newer and you have the new smaller hole. Willcox has both sizes of sensor (last I looked) and and adjustable resistor to dial in your temp gauge (worked great on mine).
Okay, the ammeter gauge issue I think I understand, the prior owner put a 1 wire alternator in it and never bothered to re-wire for the gauge. That said, I ran across a couple of diagrams, neither Vette specific, that may be correct for remedying that Both? One or the other? Can the gauge wire run in parallel with the battery wire? Seems it would need to be really heavy duty based on my limited ability to read electrical schematics.
