Default Will I like the Ultraflows??

They're just sitting in the garage, staring at me, thinking 'you don't know what I'm going to sound like, do you.' I decided on these since with the new headers, as well as an entire new exhaust system, the old 9" single chamber mufflers I have may be too loud. I've had a little time to research 'sound' articles and threads about the Ultraflows, and drats, now I'm thinking they may be too quiet. I like the sound of the FM 40, but intrigued by the flow of the UF's. Soooo, will I like the Ultraflows if I like the FM 40s?

Chris, just leave it with the open headers on it, you can afford a few ticketts.

Chris, If you're still using the catalytic converter, the 40's may be OK. I run them (see posts today) on my '72 and they are coming off after less than 100 miles. Way too loud and the resonance at the 1600-1800 range is killin' me! I am also considering the Ultraflows, but at that price I want to be sure how they sound. Flowmasters sound mean and raunchy, my old turbos sound quiet and mellow, I'm looking for what's in between the two.

I am told that mine sound great when I get on it on the hwy. They are not too intrusive but they do sound great. I am sure that you will be very pleased with them.

I don't think I'd get too far, but I like the idea!

So who can tell me what increase in db's you experienced after installing headers and a hi-flow cat, but didn't replace your mufflers?

Hmm! Only cat I have is currently using the litterbox....

Thinking along those lines, the thought of a 'high flow cat' is scary!

I have UltraFlows on my 74 and I like them a lot. At idle they're not much louder than a stock exhaust (I don't have cats). At cruise you can keep up a conversation and listen to the radio without having it at full volume. When you run it out or punch it they open up with what I think of as a classic glasspack sound, a nice deep rapping. It draws a lot of attention and your mileage will definitely go down because you'll like to have your foot in it. :steering:

Chris,

I just spent the last 30 minutes checking out your site and the NC vette club site...VERY cool! You have a killer car! I was checking out your U-Joint repar...impressive work under there. I just replaced all mine (6) and didn't take the extra time to detail everything under there...after seeing yours I wish I had. I just want to drive my car so much that taking the extra time to "finish" projects is hard.

Anyway, as far as your mufflers go...I put a new exhaust on mine when I put the ZZ4 in and went with the FM 40 series...nice, aggressive rumble but I kinda wish I had gone wioth something that was a bit more mellow as these are VERY loud and my neighbors hate me when I leave at 4:30AM for work. I'd be interested to hear a sound clip of your Ultra Flows after they are in.

Later.

I heard about that adventure. Hope you were able to stop the bleeding!

I'll be around this weekend installing my xmas present (MP3 player) if you want to drop by and have a listen (er, to the exhaust, not the player)...
