Well, now that I've got my engine running as it should. Next project. Replace my 45 year old oil pump. I'm thinking of ordering this one for my mild 350. thought before I do. I'd throw it out there. Thoughts?
The one thing that was worn on my stock oil pump was the bypass spring. It had taken a sightly compressed set, so oil was always bypassing reducing my oil pressure. It could be shimmed or spring replaced. I replaced the spring.
It's starting to run high pressure some of the time. thinking it's the relief valve acting up.
Interesting that it's going that direction. So if it's getting sticky for some reason maybe there is some kind of build up or a piece of junk stuck in there. Could disassemble and check it out. It should be obvious if you find something.
I agree, However, I live in Australia. if I get it apart and then determine that it needs a pump. then order one. I'll be down for 3 weeks. I would rather be prepared, So, What do you guys think of this pump? or is there something else I should be looking at?
Melling pumps are good...and just about everyone sells them under their own re-branded names.
I'd opt for the "Z-28" version which is a stock volume pump with the high pressure spring. I like a little extra pressure...but I hammer on stuff a little!
If you can keep the stock pump I would suggest that. At one point the new Melling pumps have thin castings compared to old and were cracking.
