Default Fast idle adjustment

Is this my fast idle adjustment screw? If not, then where is it?
The carb is a Carter Quadrajet from a 78, number 17058204
Thanks

No, that adjusts the choke plate opening on a cold start, your 78 204 book says 5/32 but wherever the engine runs smooth on a cold start.
The red arrow is pointing at the fast idle screw.

No wonder I couldn't see it! Thanks, I'll go search for it over the weekend.

I found it, but can't actually get a screwdriver on it to adjust it. Looks like I'd need to remove the carb to do that, don't think I'll bother, just to reduce the fast idle by a couple of hundred rpm. Thanks for the help though.

The fast idle screw is easily accessible from the front of the carb by slipping the screwdriver in just forward of the choke pulloff. There is absolutely no need to remove the carb - the screw is perfectly accessible. You might want to check to see if the screw is a slotted-head screw as it should be: If someone has messed with the carb it may have been replaced with a Torx screw.

The fast idle screw is directly visible from the front of the carb with the carb mounted on the engine - it's a direct-in shot:

Adjustment is easy and accessible - this is the same carb you have. No reason not to set it up correctly - it takes 30 seconds:

Lars, I could only see the screw by using a mirror below it, your photo doesn't have all the vacuum hoses fitted, which is what stopped me being able to get a screwdriver on it. I thought it would be easier to unbolt the carb rather than remove the hoses, but maybe the easiest thing would be to remove the choke pull off. It looks like that would just be undoing 2 screws and removing 1 hose.

The screwdiver will fit in there with the choke pulloff attached. Just push the hoses aside. I worked on these cars when they were new with all hoses and emission attached - the fast idle can easily be adjusted without removing anything. I have looked at your photos above - there is nothing preventing you from fast idle screw access. Really.

You just need to set it up correctly and adjust it right. All the info is in your Service Manual.

Yea,think I want to switch to a earlier carburetor and distributor, and heard on here of course that you could rebuild it.I have a friend that has a 1977 that’s been parked the last 20 years and possibly could get his if will fit on my 1981.now on this 1981, the carburetor is running high like this, and the wire on the choke is broke so is not hooked up,even though I have tried to hold it on by hand, but doesn’t make a difference either way, also unplugged everything on carburetor plugs that is and didn’t change anything.lol puzzling.lol

I'm sure it will come as no surprise to anyone that Lars is completely correct as always. Once I laid myself across the fender and got my head down low enough to see the screw directly (rather than upside down in a mirror) it was indeed easy to get on to it and adjust it
Thanks
