Default Box on Steering Column ??

Howdy yall !
I've been sorting through the rat's nest under my dash for the past 6 months (taking it slow with school ya know) and I've reached what I'm hoping is the end....but I got an issue.

What is this box at the very base of the steering column?? It has a phat green wire that's been cut, and I found it just dangling in the breeze. The orange wire was spliced into one of the aftermarket harnesses, but i soldered it back together with what seemed to be his orange friend.

Can I ditch the box? Should I return the green fella to his rightful home? If so, where does he run to?

Any help would be muuuuch appreciated!

Well your block box looks like a standard 30 Amp relay to me.
Not certain which car your working on but not thinking any C3 would have a relay mounted there from the factory.
None the less my car now has 7 relays that it didn't come with. They can be a good thing. there should be 4 wires total.
You need to follow the wires to see where they go.

Is that a diode, or a resistor?

Either way, I doubt that is stock.

On the relay itself may be a circuit diagram that, if wired properly, may give you a hint as to the function. It could even be a DIY ignition kill.

Are those inline fuses on the bottom right of the photo? Radio or alarm system?

Hey thanks yall for the quick responses! I believe that is a resistor on the amp. No inline fuses, but a mess of capped-off wires by PO. I've also been finding a ton of cut grounds, so Im thinkin I need a wire diagram, do yall recommend the coloured sheet, NCRS book, year specific shop manual? Car is also a 1981.

A color-coded wiring diagram would be best, most come in a 11 X 17 size. I take a Hi-Res picture of the diagram and upload that onto my computer so I can zoom in for better detail.
