I also had to install a section of rubber hose to the round post on the switch to get it to work

Yes, I started this thread and finally received the new pedal switch. And I also had to add a piece of rubber hose on the switch arm to make it work. I did the "push up on switch arm" to reset it, but no go until I added the rubber hose.

A Power Probe is a great tool for troubling shooting electrical gremlins, there are a number of brands out there in the $60 - $250 range. Another good tool to have is a test light that provides LED digital voltage readout and polarity indication, they are inexpensive.
