Ok,as I’m doing my engine stuff, replacing heads, intake, and carburetor all Edelbrock also adding long tube headers new distributor and considering switching the th350 to a 200 4R transmission so,my understanding or research that it’s about as close of a fit without any other modifications to do.question is how difficult it is finding one.
Actually just asking around here, found one about 10 miles from me,at a guys shop that he does performance tuning, and it belongs to a guy that he does work on a drag car for this person and he pulled out of something, not sure what yet, hadn’t been able to talk to him yet, but,he told my friend that he didn’t know if he wanted to sell it,lol....well we all know everything is for sell.lol...but curious what would a used transmission like that cost.
A mechanic here, which I know he knows his stuff, and in the 80's was a mechanic in his first of very many dealerships later,a guy named Rick Hendricks, and he started here in SC Bennettsville. He told me that when a car came in with that particular transmission in it,he would go take a cigarette break, and he didn't even smoke. He said they were made out of tin.
most new designs had weaknesses that showed up shortly after going into production. usually the tin parts got upgraded in the 2nd-3rd year of production. and every trans guy knows which weak parts from which years had to go first thing.
Yea,I guess.he said they didn't come much better than the th350 or th400,but did say as far as street the 700 4r would be a upgrade.and nothing is wrong with mine other than the way it shifts into third, and he told me I could adjust that to shift when I want it to,not sure how yet though.
Noticed a spot on drivers side about mid of car,its hard to see,but my speedometer cable,I think is possibly leaking, but just past this you can see a area about the size of a foogball, maybe like blowing fluid back, not sure how to even get to it with channel locks.
This is where I think its leaking blowing backwards underneath and the car has been sitting almost 4 months in a hot shop,so whatever it is,it dosent dru very quick.but Im almost positive it transmission fluid, anybody else have this issue with cable.
