Working thru a box of after market parts that came with the purchase of our 76'. It has a chrome air filter that I would love to put in place of the stock black one that looks like crap. However, it won't seat on top of my Quadrajet Carb. Any suggestions on how to modify and fit?

It's in a box because it's the wrong air cleaner. Buy the right air cleaner and it will fit. You'll still have to do some mods to hook up or alter your PCV air inlet system if you're going to use a cheap aftermarket chrome unit. The stock air cleaner is a very good unit - clean it up, paint it, and use it.

If you buy the correct diameter aftermarket air cleaner and want chrome bling, you can just use the shiny top and replace your black painted top. You can get chrome air cleaners in various diameters for about $40 and retain your vacuum hose hookups and PCV vent system without modifications using the stock air cleaner base. Then you can put a "350 Horsepower" sticker on the chrome lid like they do on the cars at the Mecum Auctions and have everybody fooled..!

Corvette Central sells a '76-'81 chrome air cleaner lid...that's where I got mine. One summer years ago I picked up a chrome open air cleaner and put it on, just for looks. That Fall when the air turned cold I switched back to stock to see if I could tell a difference. I then sold the open element to a buddy...
