Default Engine block sealer

Does anyone use this stuff?
the topic came up in conversation the other day and I had never heard of it.
I’ve never been one to use “magic dust”

i hope it was just talk and not something that you need. you dump sealer in if it is something you have to TRY to keep driving. usually don't succeed...

got a link...is it for oil or for coolant? JUst remember that all the holes that are leaking may be the same size as the smallest holes that the coolant or oil flows through inside the engine or the radiator....its like putting a bandaid on a gunshot wound...

I don’t need it, just wondering what the benefit would be. One of the guys I was talking with said he used it in his motor because he used studs instead of bolts to hold his heads. I don’t know why that would make a difference

What they were most likely talking about was Glyptal. The stuff was originally developed by General Electric to insulate electric motor housings etc. what was discovered way back when was that Glyptal also acts as a sealer on porous castings and also promoted oil drain back. Alot of racing engines were painted inside with this stuff to promote oil drainback with the intent to lessen crankcase windage.

I’ve seen this stuff used ALOT inside high pressure gearcases like hydraulic pumps and hydraulic motors etc. I’d bet that is what they were talking about.

I use glyptal and it does help get the oil back into the sump. The price is pretty high and its hard to come by now a days. I debur the casting flash in and around the lifters and then coat it all in glyptal being careful not to get it in the lifter bores. I've also seen it in the lifter valleys of the heads as well

According to more than one former GM plant employee on the C1/C2 forum, the factory routinely dropped magic dust in the cooling system before new ones rolled off the line. Not in the oil system.

So tell me what you'd do if you'd spent a cr@p ton of money Onan essentially unreplaceable correct number block only to find a hairline crack in the water jacket inside the cam tunnel. Depressing is seeing drops of green coolant on the windage tray while you have the intake off. Yeah, magic dust. Until it was possible to send the block for repair. The magic dust did the job. Bars Leaks.
