this is the route we will be taking.
If you know of some interesting points along this route you can email us at: HRPT@familyevents.com or write to us at: Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour 2003; 804 N. Delaware St; Indianapolis, IN 46204. Happy touring and remember you will receive the final route at the event! Once again this year we will have the morning drivers meetings and leave from Wal-Mart each day.
Nashville, TN to Memphis, TN: We will follow I-40 west to Memphis, Loop South around Memphis on I-240 to I-55 south to the Desoto Civic Center in the Memphis suburb of Southhaven, MS.

Memphis, TN to Jackson, MS: We leave Wal-Mart and go west on State Route 302 to US 61 South. Near Anguilla, MS we will head East on State Route 14 to US 49 South into Jackson. In Jackson we will loop around the South on I-220 to I-55 North to the Fairgrounds and Coliseum.

Jackson, MS to New Orleans, LA: Today we head to the “Big Easy!” We’ll leave Wal-Mart, heading south on US 49 to I-59 South near Hattiesburg, MS. Follow I-59 South to I-10 West to I-610 west; arrive at the Fairgrounds Racecourse!

New Orleans, LA to Lake Charles, LA: We Leave New Orleans on I-10 West towards Baton Rouge, LA. Follow I-10 into Lake Charles. The Cruise night will be at the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Lake Charles, LA to Shreveport, LA: Might just be the favorite drive of the tour. We will head North on US Highway 171, follow US 171 all the way to Shreveport. Follow through town to US 71 North. Take 71 North to Red River Raceway about 30 miles North of the city.

Shreveport, LA to Arlington TX: The final leg of the Tour! We will follow I-20 West from Shreveport to the Dallas area. Once in Dallas take I-20 West to State Route 360 North. The Ball Park at Arlington is near State Route 360 North and I-30 East/West.

Nope...no 1/4 mile tracks in this bible-belt capital. Don't you know those things are noisy and attract "the wrong type of people"? :nono:
There's a 1/8 mile track bout 30 mins north. There's a 1/4 mile track bout 90 minutes south.
The fairgrounds are pretty large, they might have some kind of speed contest set up but I doubt it.

We do hava Hooter's tho!!!

Brett

this is the car they will be giving away for power tour 2003

The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour, presented by Chevrolet and co-sponsored by Flowmaster, is the automotive Road Trip for hot rod automotive enthusiasts. Last year the Tour attracted over 14,000 cars and of that total 535 vehicles went the entire tour to earn the coveted title of "long hauler." The long haulers receive special awards and accolades and every one of those hardy souls wears the label with pride. Hot Rod Magazine and Chevrolet will award a Â’67 Chevelle Malibu, dubbed "Project PowerDriver" to one lucky person. "Chevrolet fans will have their fingers crossed when we draw the name of the lucky fan who will win this awesome ride" said David Freiburger, Editor-in-Chief of Hot Rod Magazine. "There is an added bonus; the winner of the PowerDriver will be our special guest at the Woodward Dream Cruise, August 16, 2003, and that lucky person will be physically awarded the car at that time."

The Hot Rod Magazine Project PowerDriver is a 1967 Chevelle Malibu equipped with a GM Performance Parts LS1 engine installed by Chevrolet engineers at the GM Proving Grounds, it features a GM Performance Parts 4L60E overdrive transmission, with a 12-bolt rear end with 3.42 rears and Posi, a Baer four-wheel disc brakes package and it rides on an airbag suspension system. The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour kicks off in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, May 30 and will cruise through Memphis, Jackson, New Orleans, Lake Charles, and Shreveport before it draws to a close in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday June 6, 2003.
