I'm excited. I just read the latest edition of HOT ROD and just found out the the 2003 power tour will be in my neck of the woods. It's starts in Nashville TN-Memphis TN(Where i live)-Jackson MS, New Olreans LA- then some other small cites, then to FT Worth TX.
I have always wanted to do something like this. Get on the road for a few days and ride along.
All i have to do no is get my car re-asseblied. I won't have time to get it painted, however, i have always like the look of a car in primer grey.
Wish me luck in getting the car there.
Originally my goal was to get it together for the yearly Corvette home coming in Bowling Green, Looks like i'll have to turn it up a notch to meet the power tour date of 30 MAY.
Iknow there are several guys in the early. It would be cool if a few of us woold go. Not for the whole tour, mabye just for a few days of it.
I only plan on doing the Nashville to New Orleans portion.
All Right!!!!! Pour tour comes to New orleans. I have been waiting for it to get close to us again. I hope my car is in perfect shape when they come rolling through. I think I will try and join the run for a while.
If ya go to hotrod.com there's a link to the power tour thru familyevents.com. There's a link there to preregister. Don't know what it involves but I will by this weekend when I have time to check it out.
There is also a toll free number you can call to make reservations. It will cost $50.00 for a single car with driver and one passenger. They will send you a registration goody bag and you get to go to all the events. This does not include hotels, however, they have told me they will be working out a group discount at hotels along the way.
It will cost $25.00 per day if you do just a single event. I was also told that the price will go up to $60-65 01 FEB and then it will go up again in MAR.
I plan on doing the Nashville to New Orleans run. Depending on gas prices and hotel costs, i might do the long haul. I'll make my mind up in New Orleans.
I would love to see some of ya'll along the way. :steering:
This sounds great! I can finally meet more Forum members in person I hope. I am wondering where they would stop in New Orleans. There are just so many places there that would be nice. They could go to the Lake or some where in the city. I think I plan on taking my car up to Jackson and meeting the tour there, and following it till Lake Charles. I figure I can bypass alot of hotel space by being in Louisiana.
God I would love to do that, but alas it is not to be - I really would want a new engine in for that - My original L-82 would do fine I am sure but paranoia about my high mileage motor prevents me from taking cross country jaunts like that :(
The Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour will begin in the "music city" and will turn south to Memphis, Tennessee, Jackson, Mississippi, New Orleans, Lake Charles, and Shreveport, Louisiana. The "Lone Star state" will play host to the end of the tour. Fort Worth, Texas is the planned final stop, with the Long Haulers Presentation to take place on Friday, June 6, 2003.
As in the past the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour will cap off each day with a Cruise Night featuring an awesome display of cars, automotive aftermarket companies and lots of food and fun!
This annual automotive event will attract Original Equipment Manufacturers, leading high performance automotive aftermarket companies and major lifestyle sponsors.
I have been on the tour 3 times and will be going again this year. My first time was in 1999. We just finished painting the vette the night before I left and we were putting it back together as I drove. That year I got two pictures of my car in the mag and they used one of them as part of the advertisement for the 2000 pt so it was in all the mags. This prompted me to get a group together and try to get our picture taken. We were all from another web site and all drove ls1 vehicles (some with lots of power more power than the cars they were doing writeups on). They never took one picture. I then drove my vette again last year and they took a picture of it by accident.
I bet if we get all of us together we will get lots of pictures in the mag as they like vettes. I did this on the other site and had at one time 12 ls1 cars together. I bet if we start getting it together now we could have several more.
If people are interested I will compile a list of members with contact info, meeting places, and hotels. We have time to be very organized by the end of may but time does fly.
Respond here and if I get a positive response I will start everything in the right direction. I hope they let us drive around Texas Motor Speedway.
Mike
and yes it will stop in Jackson :smash:
I have been on 2 Power Tours, 99 and 02 and it is a blast! There are people waiting on overpasses and all along the road waving. It's a big event for a lot of small towns you pass through. Last year it stopped at Mid America. That's where we hooked up with them and went on to Lexington and Columbus, OH. We were going to go again this year, but it is to far south. That's a real downer to because it would have been my first time to go in a Vette! Maybe next year.... :(
I've got a lot to get done between now and then, but man, I would love to make the run. :auto: . Nashville is only two hours away.... yep, good reason to get this project done.
I've driven with portions of it every year since '99. This year, since the whole route is so close, I intend to make the "Long Haul". Unfortunately, I won't be driving the Vette :( ; way too much work to be done. :smash: It's a fun trip no matter what you drive. :auto:

We're planning on driving east and hooking up with the tour between Shreveport and Dallas. If the my AC rebuild is complete (doubtful by June), we may even road trip to Shreveport and complete the last leg.
There are several Vette guys near me so if anyone needs access to tools, garage etc. we'll be able to provide help somehow, somewhere.
