Did a search and looking for recommendations to replace the starter on my 74 L48 Auto. No flywheel modifications that I'm aware of. The starter on there now is a functioning NAPA remanufactured with a rebuilt date of 2005. I do not feel it spins the engine very well, especially on hot starts and would like to avoid being stranded.
I did read some things regarding putting a smaller gear reduction style starter on there. A couple people referenced using a starter from a 96 Chevy K1500 5.7. Didn't find too many part numbers or specific answers to many questions. Anyone put one of these in their cars? Anything special besides making sure to have the correct bolts?
So you have checked battery voltage with a DMM and seen 12.6 minimum at rest? And the initial timing is adjusted to spec? I used a starter from a LT1 Camaro.
