Default Need Help With Eliminating Remote Mirror

My driver's side mirror won't stay in one place, I don't need the remote feature, in fact I want to do away with it, did they ever make them that WEREN'T remote? This is a '74 with the fiberglass "sport" mirrors, maybe they were added later, I don't care about originality. I DO need to keep this style of mirror because the car has already been painted.

I simply wound up the remote cable and coiled it up in the bottom of the door....away from the window and mechanism, and tie wrapped it off. The mirror stays where you put it.....if and when I need to adjust it...which is "never", since I am the only drive.....it always sits perfectly where it needs to be. But you can just push the mirror into proper position if necessary.

I did this during the restoration, which included new side door panels, so......there is no open hole where the remote lever mounted.

I am pretty sure the cable is inside the door, the panel is actually off so I can check, but the glass is loosey-goosey, and held still with tape. Maybe the cable is defective? I haven't fooled with it in years, just remembered it at the moment since I saw a set for sale here on the forum.

you may end up squirting some clear silicone behind the glass and making sure the glass ends up in the right spot. they are 77-up mirrors.

Yes definitely, they are 77 up mirrors. Perhaps they were never installed and set-up correctly. My 77 sport mirror remote works perfectly.
