I'm in the process of putting the dash back together in my 68. WHAT a NIGHTMARE !!!!!! Right now I'm trying to figure out the flasher locations and what they are for. The only one I'm sure of is the one in the jack hole behind the passenger seat. That one I know is for the alarm when I get that far. There is one in the harness forward in the center console just laying there. Not sure if it's supposed to be clamped somewhere. Looks like there is supposed to be one in the upper left on the fuse block. There isn't one there !!!!!! By looking at the harness it looks like maybe one on the passenger side lower dash pad. So that would make 4 altogether correct ? And is there a specific number flashers I need , or any flashers will work ? I'm going to spend another day tomorrow trying the get the drivers side lower dash in. I can get the screws in on the door jam and the upper dash pad but the right side lower won't go in far enough the put the screws in by the gauge cluster. Obviously something in the way behind it !!!!!!!! Yes, I HAVE the AIM but it's not a lot of help. The drawings are far from what's really there in reality. So I could use any advice or input !!!!

My 68 has two flasher relays, i dont have an alarm and i have no idea what the one on the passenger side could be. The one infront of the center console should have a barrel clip to hold it, its the turn signal one.
The one on the fuse panel is for the hazards.
The passenger side dash goes in last.
I leave the drivers side dash loose and the upper center loose. I put the door side in first resting it on the kick panel and pushing the top in. then use some thin plastic pry tools to lever on the dash to get it to pop in. I have the upper dash screws a little loose for extra room. The upper dash will tighten up once everything is in. Its a tight fit. Dont lever on the center gauge trim or you can break it
Another way if you have enough room to get the door wide open is to leave the kick panle off and start In the center and work out putting the lick panle in last, then the sill.
Thank you Rescue and thank you for your service !!!!!! I will give it another go today. I might try putting the center panel in first and see how that goes !
NO !!!! I'm on my third day at trying !!!!! I just gave up again. I'm too frustrated.......had to walk away for awhile before I get any madder at it and really wreck something. I can only get the top top attached to the top pad and the top screw on the door pillar ! The bottom won't push in place. I can't figure out what it's hitting. I've had it in and out 7 or 8 times now. That's a lot of stuff of unhook with the speedometer and tach cable etc !!!! I will pull it all out again tomorrow after my post-op doctor appointment !

Its probably the wiring harness. They are a complete hassle. you have to get the vent duct and the vent ***** all balanced and sitting near their final resting places. you have to get the harness pulled in as close to the steering column as possible...depending on when it was manufactured is where they ran the harness, mine is mostly across the bottom and then up to the ignition over and then down to the center console. I ended up modifying mine so its longer and fits better plus additional wires for my personal mods.
Nice to see another 68 with a alarm, only 388 cars had the alarm option. mine has a alarm and i got it all working, restored all the pieces.
both my dash pieces were getting hung up on the vent ball duct work. is your column out? i had mine either out or lowered as low as i could get it when i did my dash work on the cars
OK....Update--------I have the speedo-tach back in. I was hoping I wouldn't have to but I laid on my back and shimmied under the dash. (which wasn't easy for a 76 year old guy that just had hernia surgery a week ago) The reason the left bottom of the pad won't go in far enough is because the speedometer is hitting the steering column support. There appears to be about a 1/4" or less clearance on the tach side. SO, I know the column bracket moves forward and backward but can it also move right and left ?If so, I think it will go between the speedo & tach !!!!!!
Putting the dash back together on '68, '69 and part of '70 is a real pain because of where the wiring harness is located. In those years it goes under the speedo, over the steering column and then under the tach and the support for the steering column and the pedals gets in the way. In late '70 they ran the harness over the top of the gauges and I imagine that it is much easier to put the dash back together. I think I tried to put my '69 dash together about 20 times before I found a location where everything fit together. I can't imagine what the guys on the assembly line had to go through before they changed the routing. I understand your pain because I recently had the dash apart and was lying on the driver's side floor with my feet into back area and I will turn 75 this month.
The flasher in the fuse box is the emergency flasher and the one on the passenger side that attaches to a clip on the rear of the right dash is the flasher for the blinker.
