The carb bowl vent valve on my 78 evap canister has started leaking. The valve no longer seals off the carb vent line when the engine is running and the valve itself is letting by, so I'm pretty sure the diaphragm inside has split. Can I just remove the hoses and seal the open ends and if so what should I do with the carb vent port on the carb, leave it open or seal it? The purge control valve is still working properly

Assuming you are talking about the bowl vent to the EVAP system on a 1979-1980 Q-Jet - like this?
There is no problem operating the carb with this bowl vent nipple disconnected and capped. The carb will vent just fine through the regular vertical vent tube that vents into the air cleaner. Prior to 1979, the carbs did not use that vent nipple at all. Here is a 1977 carb:
Thanks Lars, it is just like the 79-80 carb you show (although mine is a 78). I'll just cap the vent on the carb and the 2 ports on the evap canister vent valve then.
