I am in the process replacing my 1982 5.7 Crossfire engine. I found a good deal on a rebuilt 1980 4 bolt main 5.7 engine. I am wondering do I still use the ECM that is installed? Can I get away without it?

What kind of fuel pump, the mechanical or the existing Electric? If the electric then you need the ECU, and a pressure regulator..
You will need the correct TV cable bracket and linkage for that Carb.
As mentioned above some provision to lock up the TC in OD...there are a number of them out there..
The other members mentioned the transmission differences being three-speed auto to four-speed auto and the fuel delivery type differences being mechanical fuel pump to electric in-tank fuel pump. Wiring harness changes will be a necessity.
I wonder how the 1982 hood will work with the carb/air filter on the 1980 intake/carb setup. The 82 hood underside was designed for the Crossfire intake and has the solenoid flap which opens an air tunnel at WOT. Will he need to change or modify the hood?
I have heard of many removing the Crossfire and converting to a carb, so I am sure this part of the project can be done.
