I recently sold the all original 454 out of my 73 with the TH400 for $650.00.
It ran good, smooth and only had about 108,000 miles on the clock.
I had a video on my phone to show him it was running up to the day I pulled it.
The guy who bought it went through the engine, replaced the bearings, rings, did a hone and he had it in his car and on the road with about $1,000.00 spent.
He plans to swap in a new cam, intake and carb in the future as his budget allows, but for now he is on the road, having fun.
It is possible with a $2,000.00 budget.
Just look around and you’ll find a good deal.

If you can find a running engine and see it running you are better off money wise. If its built you can do a compression check, leak down if you have the gauge, check the oil for odors and color and as well as cut open the filter and see if it was hurt lately. block only requires yo to buy the stuff that you have that is unusable. I would do some shopping locally, ask around at car shows and check market place and craigs list
