78 and 79 were the only years of the front-end 3-piece bolt on spoiler. Cure for Curb Rash maybe? I'd actually need to go back and measure my pace car spoiler to see if that's true. But with the 80-82 redesign they could have fixed all that with the new integrated nose.
idno....Looks like Big block springs on a small block car.
Or the engine is MIA...lol
The FE41 / Gymkhana cars got the "big block springs", on them, I think there's other options combinations over the years that would end up with "Big Block Springs" on a small block. BUT, the "big block springs" / Gymkhana springs are actually shorter than the standard springs, so I'm not sure that that's the reason.
The difference would be even more wheelwell to wheelwell.......but it appears they were made that way according to this.......
The thing that gets me is that this is "America's Sports Car" in the 70's and how GM though this was ok is beyond me......kind of an epic fail IMHO.....but they did also put $50 heads on a $2000 short block with the L-82 too so it just goes with the flow.....
See a lot of Chrome bumper restorations that the whole cars sits 2" too high.....C2 as well......just wonder what the people who are building these see when they are finished.......maybe just too wore out to change it......to me it is also an epic fail to spend 50k restoring a Vette and have the stance be all jacked up......I mean, it isn't an unnoticeable thing......stance is as important as the wheels and paint...maybe more so!

In the mid to late 70's though, hadn't GM given up trying to call the Corvette a "sports car" and it was a "touring car" by that time?
It just seems like they ran out of give-a-**** beyond trying to pass emissions and MPG requirements in the mid to late 70s. No matter what they did, the sales went up even through the malaise period. "We made it worse again, and sales went up again! Who cares at this point, people will buy it, no matter WHAT we do to it!" "What if we make it weight 3,600 lbs and give it an ugly rear bumper?" "Nope! Highest sales ever! WTF?!? (1979)"
