not having any crankcase ventilation at all probably made the intake leak worse, it sure didnt help. Make sure you seal that new intake up and torque the bolts well. Just a thin coat of sealant on very clean surfaces should be enough to assist in sealing the intake gasket...please update this thread to keep us in the loop
