Hi guys, I was wondering how you would know if the cam is bad in the crossfire? What would be the symptoms? I remember Lars saying that some of the 82's had soft cams and that there is slight miss when idling? Any more info about this condition would be greatly appreciated.

You will hear the lifter tapping hard......and it will get worse very quickly......if you do not hear anything then it is not the cam.......

popping would be one. Its easy enough to pull the valve covers and check the rocker motion.
If you have the standard rocker arms, you can buy some aluminum clips that fit on the arm and block the oil flow. They come in sets of 8.
Pull one valve cover at a time. Install the oil retaining clips and a strip of narrow cardboard. Jam the cardboard between the valve springs and the V.C ledge.
Start the engine, but do not rev. Take note of any rockers that appear lazy. Shut it down and check valve-lash of suspected valves. Button everything back up and do the other bank.
A compression test usually will show somethings amiss on the valvetrain. If the cylinder can not fill, the compression test is lower on that cylinder.
Why can't a cylinder fill fully? A wiped cam lobe.
See if certain loose valve-lash matches any cyl with low compression.
