Hello everyone. I had to pull trailing arms out to fix some rust in frame. While everything was apart I figured I may as well swap squeaky leaf spring with a monospring one.
now that trailing arms are finally back in, im trying to get the spring in, and things just don’t need to lining up. I can’t even get the thing mounted flush to the differential. Thinking maybe one of the trailing arms could be pulling it forward?
anyone have any suggestions? I just want it moving again :<
It can be a pain…jack around the arm and spring..be careful not to lift car..it will line up..
assuming the new spring fits..
details of springs? Pics?
and when looking for that I saw their kit has the heat shield things I was gonna ask about, and some other mounting stuff… does anyone know what those parts are? I did already get the longer bolts
havent forgotten pics, will be going over there soon
edit: so I have the actual spring, and the bolts on the side of the pic they have here

Mount spring to differential first.
Do not use original mounting equipment. Use mounting equipment for the specific spring. Most likely the original bolts will be too long,
Remember to put in spacers as the new spring is 2.25" wide and the old one is 2.5" wide.
Send that back, and get the VanSteel low-arch spring instead. Direct from VanSteel if you have to.
What you bought matches the Hyperco/TRW spring, and is known for having a high-arch. The VanSteel low-arch spring is functionally identical to what VB&P used to make for our cars.
If you go to the VanSteel site, you'll notice that the spring you have isn't even listed. Perhaps they are ashamed of it.
****, been few months so doubt they would take it back :< sounds like old squeaky will have to go back in
Here's a long thread that shows the journey of discovery one Forum member took. In the end, Zip made good, and he got the "correct" spring for his car. Perhaps Eckler's would do the same.
If they wont take it back and if you can get the mounting figured out, the "hi-arch" spring (trw) may not be as bad as some are. I ran one for years with the car basically sitting at factory height. I did change recently to a van-steel low arch and dropped the car some while switching to different rims.
longer spring - trailing arms bolts are an option if you are running 17" rims as well

Absolutely mount the spring (only snug) to the differential before the spring ends. And definitely measure the length of the bolts needed before using the old ones or you will do damage to the diff case and hate yourself in the morning.
So update, managed to get the thing in, turns out one of the screws to diff was an old one throwing things off. So will talk to evilest about returning after I see ride height.
Either way I go, I’m still going to need the heat shields.it looks like van steel sells them, but they say to mount with existing hardware? How do I mount those things?
snd thank you for all the help everyone, still going through that huge post.

the car is on stock steel rims. Bolts I got the 8” ones they said to get. Seemed every monospring said least 8l

8" would be normal, you can sometimes use slightly longer bolts as long as they don't go below the bottom of the rim... in case of a flat you don't need them digging into the ground
To your other question, the shield mounts using those 4 bolts you just fought with

Sandwiched between that spring plate and the blocks for the spring
I made this one from some cat-heat shield from a newer car at the wreckers. Used the spring plate as a template to drill the holes, mimicked the old TRW one I sold
thanks that’s really helpful, and the pics help make it much clearer. Been busy getting things set for hurricane coming. So just so I’m clear on the layers so I don’t have to take things apart again :>

First off is that order is right (think it is)
