Awesome info. A novice with terminology, but when you refer to third pedal you are referring to a clutch?
Yes. Sports cars have manual transmissions, with clutch pedals. Not something you have to do immediately, but It is another vacuum hose that is absent from all of my cars.
I am thinking of installing an open air filter and taking off the duel snorkel and assembly on my 81. I have the original valve covers. If I do that do I need to do anything with crank case vent tube of the passenger side valve cover? Much appreciated for advice.
You can use a breather instead of that vent tube. That means a tiny amount of oil mist may end up in the engine compartment, and you are trusting the breather to filter any air going into the crankcase. That might be a problem if you live in the desert.
I did the opposite of what you propose, and kept the dual snorkel, but use a breather so I can remove the air cleaner assembly quickly.
If you aren't pushing over 400 HP, the stock dual snorkel air cleaner assembly does a really good job. I'd read up on it before you get rid of it.
Here's an old thread. I've since generated enough data to convince me to leave the dual snorkel in both cars (until the LS conversion, at least, then they'll get a different CAI).
