Working on a 1970 with a 4-speed trans. I have a stuck key. I have detached the interlock cable from the arm below the brake booster and the trans. However, the arm on the steering column which the cable was connected to, will not move. It seems to be near or at the top position (pulled all the way up), but I cannot tell for sure. What am I missing?
The steering wheel lock is not engaged on the column, and I can turn the wheels... just in case this matters.
This thread and many others do not address my issue. I have the cable completely off and the arm is as high up as it will go. The arm will not move up or down at all. Key is still stuck.
This is where the lever is at now. It will not move and the cable has now been removed from the car, so going into reverse would not be needed. Is there a reason that this arm will not move? Thanks.
Is this a new issue as in did it work before?
Is the key not rotating all the way to the off position? Try turning the steering wheel while turning the key back

New project car for me and the car came this way. No idea as to how long it has been this way. This is a tilt/telescope column. It rotates forward all the way to the start and run position. It does not go back to the lock or accessory positions.
The interlock lever on the column should move pretty freely. It's connected to a sleeve inside the column that goes right down to the end. You could try to shoot some penetrant into the top area as well as the bottom where the bushing is and see if it can be freed up without having to remove the column and take it apart which might not be part of your plan right yet

I did try the key any where along the continuum where it currently works. I will lube it up and also try turning the steering wheel while trying to remove the key. Just cannot figure why the lever will not move freely, other than corrosion.
Is the cable frozen? Mine was....so I cut it....3" below the mount tab, pulled the lever all the way up, and squashed the cable sheath with a pair of Electricians snip/crimps....the sheath is steel braid and holds it nicely.....and you can not see it is cut from the top unless you really look......I went to a Hurst shifter and had to do it.....but the interlock is goofy thing to me.....I hate it.

I removed the cable assembly, and the lever is still frozen.
