They make street oriented solid roller cams like my 236/242 @ .050. I had detonation problems with my first cam specs of 232/238. Attempting 218/224 would be even worse.
To change from a solid roller to a h-roller is expensive. You have to buy h-roller lifters, new correct length pushrods, and h-roller compatible valve springs and retainers.
A year ago I built a 385ci SBC with 180 Dart Pro 1 heads that I touched up the bowls on, a Howards 225/231@.050 cam, 10.4 to 1 compression, 2701 Performer EPS that I slotted the divider a bit, 750 Street HP Holley.......it was something I always wanted to build, good compression, small kick *** flowing head and a slightly aggressive but not overly aggressive cam....and it worked. This thing makes so much torque everywhere from off idle to redline......approx. 460hp and 490 ft/lbs. torque.....idles nice, not too aggressive, 13 inches vacuum, super crisp response.....blows the tires off at any speed......
If you are looking for a kick *** street combo.....this one works.
