Default 77 AC system replacement

Hi all. I apologize if this is a duplicate. I looked around and couldn't find what I need. I have an early 77 with VIR AC. I got a new compressor, condensor, and a dryer, but the dryer is for a late 77 (non VIR) system. From what I read, I want to go with a non VIR system instead. With what I have, can I convert to the late 77 style system? The new dryer only has two connections. If anyone could tell me what else I need, I would greatly appreciate it

Type into Google, 73-E77 Air-Con upgrade. It should bring up my how to thread I wrote a couple years ago on my E77 Air-Con upgrade. Everything you need to know and more.

Last year I had a local shop convert my original '80 system to R134a. Basically a simple fitting change and re-charge. Worked good for the summer. We'll see about this coming year. I anticipate I'll have to recharge it every 2-3 years. But my point is that it was a 45 year old closed system (car hadn't been on the road for 20 years prior to me) and it worked well. Probably not as well as R12, but well enough to make it comfortable to drive with the windows up in the summer.

Your situation may be different since the system is open and exposed.
