That kind of detail is just amazing, That is a quality service being performed there when they show you in great detail what was wrong in the first place. I commend you Lars!

It was a truly great experiance working with Lars. He has been super helpful even after delivery with getting things set for the install that others had fudged.
Its official Lars is a genius - Truly the carb wisperer........
We got the Rochester QJet on today and the car runs like it never has before. Crisp, clean, fast and really fun. I would not have expected such a difference. Secondaries kick in like a dream, I am going to have a hard time keeping rear tires on this thing.

That's the way a BB should be!
And you have coined a new phrase.... "The Carb Whisperer" .... That is Perfect!

I didn't take a lot of photos on the rebuild and repair process on Hans' carb, but you can see the number of issues I was dealing with on the "problems" list that he posted above. The biggest issue was that his carb was one of the dreaded "commercially rebuilt" carbs, where the commercial builders will use a bunch of junk parts to piece together a "numbers" carb, whether it runs or not. As I have outlined in other posts, throttle plate problems are becoming more common, with builders finding defective throttle plates and mating them up with "numbers" float bowls. In Hans' case, the throttle blades themselves were defective (undersized), and the bores on the secondary side in the throttle plate were out of tolerance, making it virtually impossible to get a good no-flow seal on the secondary side at idle. If the secondary throttle blades on a Q-Jet do not seal up completely, it causes havoc with idle quality, air/fuel mixture ratio at idle, and consistent return-to-idle after WOT application. So a little creative effort was required to get this carb to perform correctly. The bottom line is that you can't "rebuild" a 50 year old carb by simply throwing a "rebuild kit" in it - you have to actually find all the hacked problems and repair them. Based on Hans' most recent feedback, the carb is running well, and he's having some fun with the car. That's what it's all about!

So enjoyable to read all the details provided, and it never ceases to amaze me the care and professionalism provided to fellow members. If you haven't already, you (Lars) need to have minions in training to carry on these special gifts. Is it even possible to teach such a lifetime of knowledge? I sure hope so!
After running the carb for a day we needed to address a couple of items. We were not getting full throw on the throttle. Turns out the new carpet that was installed before I purchased the car was bunched up behind the accelerator pedal and was pretty sloppy and loose, easily could fall and double over making the issue even worse. I trimmed out all of the carpet behind the arm so that it had full swing to the heat barrier underneath, this gained around 3/8 of an inch. We then noticed on further inspection that the throttle cable bracket had rotated around a 1/4 of an inch forward when we tighed the rear drivers side carb bolt. (this all was done from hints from Lars). This gave us full throw on the throttle arm.
The car absolutly screams now. These little things..........

The easiest 25 horsepower gain to a 'Vette is to remove the floor mat that's preventing wide open throttle operation. Better than installing a cam and headers.... (I'm not kidding)

As I have stated many times, one of the smartest moves that I ever made was sending my original Quadrajet to Lars for restoration. The mechanic that installed my carb and the original intake manifold was impressed by Lars attention to detail. Every time I read a post on carburetor issues, it always seems to come back to someone, or a commercial company trying to restore a carburetor.
