Intake manifold gasket replacement

But, at the end of the day, when you ask 10 guys what to use on the gaskets to the heads you'll likely get 10 different answers.
But when you ask what to put on the china walls. Approximately 8 out of 10 will say, use the Right Stuff.
First, Black Permatex is well liked for containing oil leaks as most of us know.
However, the squeeze tube works, but a little inconsistent at applying.
Along came an applicator that lays down the perfect bead of RTV. The Right Stuff comes in an aerosol can.
So, you have a great applicator with a great product inside.
On the china walls, you want to lay down a bead like you are welding. Do those areas the very last. And be ready to go with the Intake, soon!
The Right Stuff comes in a variety of can sizes. I have found a small can of it at AutoZone around 3 - 4oz. Thats all you need for the china walls.

I almost thought the can was useless this summer as the silicone in the applicator tube had hardened despite the cap being on it but I was able to clear it and get it flowing again.
And I know, the search function on this forum is useless. Absolutely, totally useless. However, if you go outside the forum, and do a Google search. Most of hits will bring you right back here. With excellent results. Just start your search question with, C3 Corvette .........
Anyway. They make different types of silicone sealants for different purposes. "The right stuff" isn't what you want to seal engine coolant for instance.
However it will seal engine oil like your locking up fort Knox. It's made to fill that gap and hold on tight.
Yes I have actually used just regular standard silicone sealer on the china walls and never had a problem. But then I learned about the right stuff. It is actually even better.
in the spirit of let's do this right the first time,
The Right Stuff on the china walls!
BTW i'm with you I normally do a google search and research this stuff as theres always more than one way to skin a cat.

I tend to take big statements like I only use such and such with a grain of salt, especially if it’s not coming from someone who does alot of whatever it is, not a one off. Ive built 3-4 engines in my day and there’s so much technology now compared to then. Thanks !
More toys to buy now..... just what I need!!

I know when I'm about to head into unknown territory. Or even do a job I haven't done in years. I'll read through as many old threads on the topic I can find.
And then I often still get on here and ask.
I was suggesting Google searching for old threads to help add to his knowledge. Not trying to shut down the forum.
relax a little Mate.

Which I did. And put it back in the packaging. Time will tell if it has a shelf-life.
I always bought the smallest can I could find and considered it disposable, a one-time-deal.
Use it. Pitch it.
