Default Vac Advance can replacement

The vac advance can on my MSD 8572 Tach drive distributor has failed, won't hold vacuum verified with my mity-vac. Has anyone been able to replace it without removing the distributor or is it even possible. It's just two allen head screw with a Jesus clip. Really simple but I don't think I'll be able to get the shaft out it's hole.

Yes, its swappable still on the car. Don't make more work for yourself stabbing the dizzy, setting the timing, etc.

However, take a big bath towel and place it around the entire dist. Have a magnet on a stick ready if you need it for lost screws.
I believe once the canisters screws are removed, you have to tilt the canister unit to clear the rod.
Pretty easy stuff.

All the better if it's up on ramps, closer to you. Save your back.

That's what I was trying to avoid. Not that I can't do it it's just I want to get this swapped out and get back to other issues.

Yes, I just looked at it closer and the shaft on the cans can move up and down a lot so I shouldn't have an issue getting the old one off.
The one that's on there is a B26. I have a B1 in my Box-O-Stuff. I e-mailed our Guru Lars to see what he thinks I should run on my mostly stock ZZ4 crate engine. I think the B1 should be fine.
These are the spec according to Lars paper:
B1 - Starts @ 8-11 Max = 8 @ 16
B26 - Starts @ 5-7 Max = 8 @ 11-13

Don't use the B1 - it is completely unsuitable for your application and does not meet the requirements of "The 2-Inch Rule." No - It will not be fine - it's junk. Install a B26.

If you can not get it out the way described above then you can use snap ring pliers to open the snap ring that holds the breaker plate/ magnetic pick up plate down and lift it up to give clearance to remove the vac canister then reverse the process. this will work for sure.
