When I removed the center control I noticed that there is a small breakage in the fiberglass right above the boot. This cause the lower metal frame under the lower boot to be further from the fiber glass on the left side.
When installing the new lower boot I was unsure how its support to sit and the AIM is not clear. On the left side there are two clips and then a few screws. Are the clips supposed to be under the side fiberglass or the lower metal frame is supposed to be close to the fiber glass and then the boot clips grabs the metal frame? I’m afraid to lift the lower metal frame so it won’t further break the fiber glass. Right now I installed it so the clips grabs the fiberglass only.
so questions
1) what are the side clips supposed to grab?
2) how can I fix the hole in the fiberglass? Afraid that I use a mat and resin it may drip on the transmission. Should I use epoxy steel stick?
see image after the boot is installed (potentially wrong)
Definitely fix it with resin and mat. Just crawl under there and lay some aluminum foil over the trans to protect it from drips.
DITTO. Matt or mesh will work here. Whichever you can get in the small quantity needed. This is a super easy fix. Lots of room for mistakes and if it doesn’t look the best ehh, nobody will see it. It just needs to be functional.
Prep isn’t gonna be bad here. I’d use 3” rolock disks. That’s gonna give you probably the best access. Feather the top and bottom down so when the repair lays in it will be flush with the unprepped fiberglass.
If you are close to Washington DC I’ll give you what I have remaining from repairing the pedal box on my brothers 68.
