Pretty sure this is really bad. I got under again to check that the bracket wasn't loose or misaligned on the shaft. No clicks. I hadn't touched it since the last video. I hooked the cables back up and cant get it to go into any gear or neutral. So now I'm not even sure how to get it towed to a shop.

They can put wheels under dollies to get it on a flatbed. I dont know if youll be able to see whats going on with the pan dropped and its probably more than you would be comfortable with but being the it malfunctioned while it was parked I still think its something minor.
I'm setup to have the car towed to the shop monday. I've got some wheel dollies to put under the rear wheels. Getting it on and off the truck is going to be a little sketchy, but I think we've worked it out. Just gotta ask though, there's not an easy way to put this thing in neutral is there?
Welcome to the fun world of owning an old vette. In a year you will be surprised what you can and will fix on this car. Thanks in most part to this forum. And if it is any comfort to you, C6 automatic corvettes also have shifter issues with cables. this is my $10 repair kit that I carry in the car. Along with some tools to remove the center console bezel. I guess that as of 2012 ( my year) they still hadn't figured out how to do it correctly.
Interesting that my state of the art sports car in 2012 shared a part with Falcons.

You could pull the pan and probably put it in neutral.
I would be doing that anyway just to eyeball the situation...... could be something simple once you look inside (fingers crossed)..... anywhichway, even if something is quite wrong in there it might let you put it in neutral and avoid all the hassles of trying to work around it..... and if you're lucky (fingers crossed) it is something really simple.

If it's not at the shop yet,,, you could jack it up and pull out the drive shaft so it will roll onto the flat bed hauler. I think that's simplest way to roll it...
I took the pan off Saturday. I'm about 99% sure this is a minor issue like a few said on here. It looks like the nut holding the gear attached to the shaft is loose. The shaft would spin but the nut didn't. Not sure why there isn't something to keep that from happining, but I guess I'll find out this week. I manually pushed it into neutral so at least that problem is solved. Its headed to the shop this morning for what I think will be a short stay. The previous owner did the B&M mod or one similar in '21 and I imagine put a new gasket and filter in so I wouldn't think they would even need to order that.
Got her home last night. It was just a loose nut on the back side of the internal gear. Not sure why it didnt have a shaft locking pin or something. Seems kinda important.
Good news. Ya 'dodged a bullet' on that one.
Thats why our cars are called Modified. We are continually adding modifications, like adding that safety clip you thought should be in place there, to make them better.
