Default 1972 side view mirror issues

Last year my neighbor sold me his 1972 Corvette Stingray that he purchased at the Mecum auction in 2019. I love the car but the side view mirrors won’t hold their position when I hit the freeway. There’s seemingly no way to adjust the tightness so it there any product out there besides super glue that will help it hold its position and still be adjustable?

If they are repro this was a problem with a lot of them made cheap.Only way to avoid getting more reproes like that is check them where you buy them.

Originals have this issue too due to road grit and wear. You'll have to remove the mirror glass and tighten the bracket & ball connection. I forget how folks have removed the glass (solvent?) as my experience is with the round C2 mirrors that have a metal snap ring, but if you search the C3 forum on loose side mirrors, you'll come up with fix-it posts.

I soaked my mirror in gasoline for a few hours, cuts silicone holding the glass in place. Next step was to grind off one or both stamps holding the strap. Drill and tap holes for 6/32 screw(s). Be careful not to drill too deep, else you’ll pop through the outer surface. I’d use a bottoming tap to get the most threads in a rather shallow hole. Place a washer over the strap when reassembling, just large enough to allow the post to pass through. Use dabs of silicone to fasten the mirror.

My mirror is very stiff now. I drilled the hole just a bit too far on mine, learned to be more careful with the depth of the hole next time.

Hope this helps.

Here is a solution ..... but it ain't cheap.

Interestingly I cannot seem to find them for sale anywhere..... price is fairly outrageous .... I believe BR029 would be the polished part number for the C10 mirrors instead of black. Not sure what the part number was for the fellow ( Dins74 ) who initiated the post.

Also has responses therein where folks got their mirrors working well.

I did my mirror repair the same way. The steps that I followed suggested putting a little JB Weld Epoxy on the screw heads and metal plate to ensure that the screws would not Loosen Up. My drivers side may be ready for the procedure this next summer. Make sure that you are using the CORRECT Allen wrench to remove the mirror, seems they are different sizes for the restoration mirrors.
