I think the L82 was special, it had a baffle and is not available any more that I’m aware of. Any 5 quart should fit the chassis but I’d avoid China made stuff.
As far as I know every "Corvette" pan from C2 to C4 has the drain plug in the rear. And most every other pan has them on the side. Or at least that's what I look for at swap meets, so far it has worked out.
77 corvette is definitely at the side, rear yes, but the side. Not the very rear. Corvette pan is definitely shallower in the front area.
in answer to the original question. Yes you can probably get one from Jegs or definitely from Summit..but order one for a Corvette!
The pan for my 74 l48 was 7- 7 1/4 deep at its deepest point if I remember right and more shallow towards the front to clear the antique steering hardware if you have the stock power steering. I picked up a regular replacement pan for the 400 im building but found that even though it will clear everything now that ive cleaned up all the old power steering stuff, once I installed a borgeson unit the pan is just a bit deeper and now hangs lower than everything else under my car which I dont like. Its less than an inch deeper but enough to hang noticeably lower in my setup. I have a lowered c3 with sidepipes. I will be transferring my stock l48 once again to its third engine. there are shallow pans out there that will work better but make sure they will clear all that steering hardware.
Deeper, but not as long sump. 75-79 L-82, this pan can fit the full length widage tray and has welded angles to mate up with the baffle. Less ground clearance than the 68-74 Corvette only pan. Requires a different oil pump pickup than the earlier pan.
Full lenth windage tray. Fits the deeper, short length sump '75-'79 L-82, Z/28, SHP Chevy Power Manual catalog pan. This long tray will not fit C3 68-74 Corvette specific oil pan.
'75-'79 L-82, all Z/28, SHP catalog deeper sump pan with welded angles. Used with full length tray.
C3 '68-'74 "Corvette" specific pan, longer sump but not deep, will fit a half length windage tray for LT-1 and L-82 but no angles are used. Requires a specific oil pump pickup.
Shortie windage tray fits Corvette specific pans. LT-1 or '73-'74 L-82. Tray also used here on an '80 L-82, but this application has the new passenger side dipstick block and pan. No angles.
1970 Corvette specific pan with rear drain plug on my car now.
Original '71 LT-1 Corvette pan with rear drain plug.
Bottom line, the '68-'74 "Corvette" specific pan/ pickup setup has better ground clearance and is available from the vendors at a reasonable price. The '75-'79 L-82 pan setup is VERY expensive if you can find the whole package and has less ground clearance. The Later L-82 NCRS builds might require it but others might not be worth the scratch.

Just curious, I see all of these orange oil pans but our '78 L82 pan is blue as is the block. Car has 10K on it and I'm pretty sure the engine has never been out. Thoughts?
