Default 1982 T Top corner stud / bolt???

I had a little black plastic cap fall off my t top. Now I’m confused. I found a picture of a bolt in that location. But, my 1982 top doesn’t have the stud installed…just an empty hole in black plastic trim frame.

i Found a picture of the stud online. Should a 1982 have this bolt/stud? Mine is gone. Also attached a picture I found line showing cap installed….

Yes, there should be one in each corner, the stud is glued to the glass and the nut holds the frame to the glass. Not sure how the stud could have fallen out unless the glass is real loose from the frame, also not sure how the cap was held on if the stud is not there. Did you find a nut?

Thanks 60. No nut or stud found, just the black cap. Maybe it’s floating around inside top somewhere. I’ll look.
I was hoping maybe the 82’s didn’t have the studs and it was just for fiberglass tops or something like that.

The stud doesn’t appear to be for sale anywhere online…the caps are available but not the stud.
I'm guessing a new stud would glue onto glass like a rear view mirror plate glues to windshield?

My 82 top... the cap should actually be threaded onto the stud.

I have one that has separated from the glass but still hanging there. My plan is, I have pulled the rubber moulding out of the way and I'm going to dremel the plastic in front of the head of the stud. Clean up the glass, apply glue and soft clamp the stud to the glass with the T-top installed to account for any flex. I'm deciding on the glue, glass guys say urethane but I'm not sure, this is a done once job and no do-overs...also considering something two part PC-7.... I plan to flatten the heads of two bolts and glue them to a piece of glass and see which one holds the best... And then probably go to the ER for stitches,,,, lol

my glass is attached good to the frame but I’d like to replace that stud as added insurance.

I was gonna try and find a corner glass stud online….hopefully put some rear view mirror adhesive on stud head and slide it into the hole…then let the glue set and add the acorn nut after a day or two do drying.

I wonder if the stock adhesive gives up after 40 years….kind like older cars review mirrors end up falling on the dash after 40 years. All those heat cycles, etc.

Thanks for the great info. Good luck with yours also….stay outta the Hospital.

Try contacting Melrose Tops in Illinois. They may have the studs or at least tell you what type of adhesive to use since they rebuild these frames with new glass. I have two spare frames ready to be sent to them for new glass.

Thanks Ken. I sent a message to Melrose to see if those studs can be purchased. I liked their YouTube video on replacing top seals. That’s a future project after I get these corner studs back on.
