It's in the 1972 AIM, assembly instruction manual, except it's 454.
Thought for you and something i learned awhile back. Original LT-1 hoods never had the 427 or 454 emblem holes drilled as you know. So an original LT-1 hood is hard to find and may be worth some money to someone. Big block 427 and 454 hoods with holes, while still expensive, are a lot easier to find. So you might want to consider selling this one and buying another big block already with holes?
Double sided "Gorilla Emblem Tape" is the way to go. Put tape over ALL of the backside of the emblem. Cut off excess on the outside of the emblem...DO NOT worry about any open areas inside letters, etc. Clean paint surface with alcohol or other paint cleaner product to remove all dirt, debris, oil. Peel off backing and apply where it should reside. If you need a 'guide' strip, use painter's tape for a guide line. After placing it, let the car sit for a few days without use so that the sticky areas in the 'openings' can dry. Once dry, they will no longer collect any dirt and will remain clear.
I've used this process and they remain fixed and clear for years. Never lost one yet.
Unless you NEED to have it fully 'original', I would even cut the 'pips' off the back of the emblem and use the double sided tape, rather than to drill holes in the body.
