I’m sorting through the list of jobs that have I’ve been meaning to do for years but never had the time.
I checked out the courtesy light situation and found no brackets, broken bulb holders, broken door jam switches and other stuff.
My questions are
1- where do the brackets go? I need pics. I have the AIM but it doesn’t show them as far as I can tell?
2- no power to the bulbs. I’ve soldered new bulb holders on and got the drivers side door switch in but no power.
3- pass side switch was a bodge. Looks like I need a new blade type connector like the original drivers side arrangement. Someone had bodged a modern crimp connector on there.
4- any idea what this bulb is for?
I’ve got a wiring diagram and I’m pretty good with electrics but any help is much appreciated as I’ve spent a good few hours on it already and now I’m a bit stumped with the bracket issue and a way to test for power. The electrics to it are actually not as straight forward as I first thought. I know the cig lighter is connected to it which also doesn’t work.
Mystery bulb (Lt Blue / Pink) is you door ajar lamp. Goes in the rear of the upper center console
Located on your sheet - Right hand side of your sheet D6, 2nd bulb from the bottom on the far right.
The clock, courtesy lights, and lighter all utilize the same fuse circuit. Verify that the fuse is good and that the fuse holder is hot.
Also verify that the chassis has a good ground where your door switches insert into the jamb.

What you need is a tiny spring terminal that slips into the end of the white plastic cylinder. You can find them at just about any restoration parts vendor for any GM model (Corvette vendors included) - I got mine off eBay due to lowered shipping options. They come in a strip and look like this:
Or return the switch you have and get the later model that uses the spade terminal already on the wire.
12 v power goes to the bulb all of the time; the door switch sends GROUND to the bulb to complete the circuit. So, to check whether the door switches work or not, you need to use an ohmmeter to see if you have continuity to ground when they are released and also see that ground is not connected when they are depressed. You can check the other wire to see that it had 12 vdc on it (needs to be hot always so that the lights come on when you open the door---without the key inserted).
