Occasionally I will look for points type distributors on eBay and snag one if it's a number I want and price is a good deal. First thing I test is if the vacuum advance works and holds vacuum. Got one that does indeed hold vacuum but points plate wasn't moving. Found this mod someone made. WTH? Why not just plug the vacuum hose? Any thoughts on what the person was trying to gain by brazing the rod? I cut it loose with my Dremel tool and now have a functioning vac advance. Isn't a Corvette distributor but is from C3 era.
I am mystified why someone would go to the trouble of doing this. Your thoughts? Cut it loose and now works.

Common "hot rod" mod to lock out the vacuum advance and stabilize the points plate to assure stable, locked timing in drag race setup. Not unusual at all. Lot of people did it in the 1970's.
