The Saginaw also has the Reverse shaft on the main case while the BW has the Reverse in the tailshaft.

i understand quite a bit with tha different 4 sps.. we bought, sold, traded and ran a lot 'em back in tha day.. but that "day" was never into tha late 70's or newer for a factory 4 speed car.. last factory 4 sp. i owned was a '67 c2 so i jus had never seen and/or heard of a steel case muncie which was tha only question i really had on this subject... tha PDF puts it all into prospective... thanks for all tha answers.

Just like manual transmission cars with A/C coming with the long green wire for the automatic transmission car idle solenoid on the carburetor. Some of these factory choices are made for streamlining the assembly process and others are for saving money.

My 1978 is all matching numbers and dates including the engine and transmission. The oil pan had never been off until I replace the pan gasket and it has the auto lines clip.
